MACHINE TECH / RIEKER MACHINE - Driver: Brad Woodard
Alcohol Abuse started out as a rear engine dragster driven by my father in the early ‘80s and ran all over Southern Cal, Arizona and Nevada. This car won track championship at both Carlsbad and Riverside Raceways before moving on to Junior Fuel in 1997. Alcohol Abuse today is a 225” wheelbase front engine dragster sponsored by Machine Tech and Rieker Machine.
Today, Alcohol Abuse is driven by Brad Woodard running a state of the art chassis build originally by Mike Chrisman and modified to its current 225” wheelbase by Machine Tech Racing. The Tech, as it’s has come to be called, is our base of operations and is an engine building business started in 1981 by car owner Monte Woodard. The nucleus of the crew comes from the early days of Team Tech. Crew Chief and Owner of both, Machine Tech and Alcohol Abuse, Monte Woodard and my dad Phil Woodard, started the team in 1976 running a Willy’s Pick up at the local tracks. They moved to a front engine dragster in ’78 and picked up our transmission specialist Rich Reeder around the same time. The last of the old guys is me, current driver Brad Woodard, who started as soon as I could walk and carry a polish rag. I learned racing very quickly and took over the driving duties in 1993.
Our current crew is quite large and is still a family affair. Driver Brad Woodard, Crew Chief Monte Woodard, Car Chief Phil Woodard, Transmission Specialist Rich Reeder and crew, Cooper Wheeler, Zane Woodard, John Connelly and Jenna Holt.
This is our first season back after retirement in 2006. Special thanks go out to Bud Hammer and John Hansen for their help getting us back into Junior Fuel and also support from Scott Parks. Their help has been instrumental in moving this team forward in 2015.
